Asos launches ‘emissions free’ delivery after sustainability investigation

Online fashion retailer Asos has partnered with parcel delivery firm Hived to offer customers same day delivery in Greater London.

Hived said that it is using only electric vans, cars and bikes to deliver goods, so all deliveries via Asos will be “emissions free”.

The partnership comes months after the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced it would investigate eco-friendly and sustainability claims made by Asos about its fashion ranges.

The regulator said it would explore whether statements and language used by some retailers are too broad and vague, and potentially create the impression that clothing collections – such as the ‘Responsible edit’ from Asos – are more environmentally sustainable than they actually are.

Hived claims that 99.99 per cent of deliveries are on time and 99 per cent of deliveries have a first time success rate.

Commenting on the news Adam Scholes, director of delivery solutions at Asos, said: “Through Asos Instant, Asos customers can place an order during the day and receive it to their door that evening – vital for those last-minute purchases that just can’t wait.”

He added: “It’s great to be launching this new partnership with Hived for Asos Instant deliveries into Greater London, as we continue our journey to reduce emissions from our operations.”

Asos recently announced it was cutting over 100 jobs after losses of £39 million in 2022. The online fashion brand was also forced to write up around £130 million of stock.
